Holiday Bowl History Project

When? Friday, October 1, 2004; Saturday, October 2, 2004; Saturday October 9, 2004
What Is It? Two weekends of remembering the Holiday Bowl, a practicum in various scholarly methods from history to political science, and a method of making community in Los Angeles.
Who Is Invited? Those who frequented the Holiday Bowl, local residents, participating students, local historians, cultural geographers, political scientists, and architecture enthusiasts, those interested in bowling, among others.

Walking Tour:
Former Site of the Holiday Bowl (3730 Crenshaw Blvd)
Josh Sides (Cal Poly Pomona) and Michael Steiner (CSUF) will co-guide an historic and architectural tour of the area surrounding the former Holiday Bowl.

Japanese American National Museum
Do you have saved newspaper articles, photographs, matchbooks, menus or other ephemera from your time spent at the Holiday Bowl? Bring them in to be digitally scanned or photographed and archived for future research purposes. See old neighbors and friends from the Holiday Bowl & see how the Holiday Bowl continues to shape a community in the telling of your stories to future generations. Local historians, university and high school students will be involved in the scanning and cataloging of your items. Selected artifacts wishing to be donated will be archived for future research purposes at the Japanese American National Museum.

Forum I The Holiday Bowl Over Time: 1958-2003
Moderator Chris Jimenez y West. Panelists representing various phases of the Bowl's history will speak and the forum invites audience participation. Come and speak about how you saw the Bowl change over time or captured one period in your experience. How was the Holiday Bowl when it first opened? How did it change over time?
